Wendy Williams calls assisted living facility a ‘dump’ in rare interview

Wendy Williams She gave a rare look into her living situation at Coterie, her upscale living facility in Hudson Yards, New York City, where she is said to be staying in a bungalow.
Williams spoke to Pieces over the phone from her memory care floor. At the port, the memory care floor is locked, and she needs permission from Coterie and her guardian if she wants to leave. She is also not allowed to have a cell phone, but her room has a landline that only makes outgoing calls.
Her boyfriend and owner of Tucci’s upscale Italian restaurant in New York, Max Tucci, also spoke with the outlet, with Williams describing the establishment to him as a “dump.”
“This is where billionaires send their grandmothers. But, you know,” he said before his tone turned serious, “she doesn’t need to. Wendy doesn’t lie.”
During her phone interview, Williams asked a reporter who toured the facility, “Have you seen people? Old people? Why would I want to look at that? This is a very bad situation. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve asked to be moved off this floor.”

According to the outlet, Williams has been in the assisted living facility since 2023.
Williams has remained out of the public eye, but has made public appearances in recent months. Last month, Williams was spotted during New York Fashion Week.
“Have you seen people? Old people? Why would I want to look at that?”
“You know I go out. So obviously I go out,” Williams said of her outings. She also said she was attending a “megachurch” in Brooklyn.
“It gives me faith and keeps me in good touch with God and myself,” Williams said.

Williams initially began her stay on the third floor of the facility, which is described as having floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking 35th Street. The bathrooms are all marble with heated floors and utility bars.
According to the outlet, one of Williams’ friends claimed that on her birthday in July, she went up to the establishment’s penthouse bar and restaurant and was “beaten up.” Shortly after, Williams was transferred to a memory care unit.
Williams told the outlet that the judge allowed her to have an iPad inside her “Memory Floor” studio suite, which is 360 square feet, according to the Coterie website.

According to the facility’s website, this unit costs $25,800 per month.
According to The Cut, in addition to paying for the unit, Williams’ estate is responsible for her conservatorship attorney’s fees, paying her conservator’s fees, Sabrina Morrissey’s fees and the fees of her attorney, who charges $10,000 a month.

The Cut noted that lawyers in court this year were concerned about Williams’ financial situation. In 2024, Morrissey sold Williams’ 2,400-square-foot apartment, reportedly at a loss. They also noted that at some point, Morrissey brought her two cats home.
Williams told the outlet that she uses her iPad to listen to her old radio show and stay up to date with her news.
The Cut described the memory care unit in a grim way. The outlet said the floor smelled like Febreze. There are no locks on the apartment doors and there are no stoves or refrigerators to “safety” the residents. On this floor is a gym, where the reporter spotted Williams working out. She was on the treadmill overlooking the city, wearing a black t-shirt, leggings, and her usual blonde wig.
“It looks good,” the reporter noted.

The Cut reported on Williams’ lawsuit ex-husband kevin hunter, I filed on her behalf in June.
According to the outlet, Hunter claimed that Williams is competent and that the judge handling the case is “crooked.”
Hunter called the conservatorship “fraudulent slavery” and called for Williams’ conservator, Sabrina Morrissey, to be fired. The outlet noted that according to sealed court documents, Hunter had been receiving $37,500 a month in alimony from Williams for years.

He allegedly did not collect this money shortly before conservatorship proceedings began. It is worth noting that the lawsuit sought to divide $250 million in damages between him and Williams.
On October 9, TMZ It was reported that the judge ruled to dismiss Hunter’s lawsuit. The outlet noted that there is room for Hunter to re-file an amended complaint on his own behalf.

Williams filed for divorce from Hunter in 2019 after she discovered he had fathered another child. They have been married for 21 years and have one son, 25-year-old Kevin Hunter Jr.

The Cut was able to contact Williams’ son by phone, and he explained that he is trying to stay away from any drama involving his mother.
“I’m really not trying to be involved in this. I’m trying to build and make my own way now away from everything. I just want her to get out of this. Because this is not right,” he told the outlet.
In the coming weeks and months, a new medical report may be released, The Cut reported.
The judge overseeing the case could reaffirm guardianship, ease restrictions, and rule that Morrissey should be replaced or removed entirely. Sources told the outlet that removing the guardianship is unlikely.
