The BBC is the most overrated broadcast network on Earth. Many leftists consider it the highest standard of journalism. But on many issues it is terribly skewed, as became clear last week when two BBC executives resigned over Chairman Franken’s abhorrent editing. Donald TrumpSpeech to supporters on January 6, 2021.

The BBC’s “Panorama” program stitched together 50-minute segments and made them appear uninterrupted: “We’re going to march to the Capitol… and I’ll be there with you. And we’re fighting. Fighting like hell.” Shortly after the first part, Trump declared: “I know everyone here will soon be marching to the Capitol to make your voices heard peacefully and patriotically.” This has been ruled out.

The BBC implausibly claimed that this editing was inadvertent, for a documentary broadcast live before the 2024 election. “We accept that our editing inadvertently created the impression that we were showing one continuous section of the speech, rather than excerpts from different points in the speech, and that this gave the false impression that President Trump had made a direct call for violent action.”

The BBC admitted on Thursday that this type of editing was also broadcast on its Newsnight program in 2022. It was slightly longer, but had the same effect. The caption acknowledged that this clip was followed by a voiceover from anchor Kirsty Wark saying “and they fought” over footage of the Capitol riot. On that show, Trump’s former chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, criticized the dishonest link shortly after it aired.

Initially, US broadcast networks ignored the news as BBC executives resigned. But the “general” media can’t leave it alone, with PBS and NPR being the most ardent members of the BBC fan club. The “PBS NewsHour” turned to CNN media analyst Brian Stelter, who foolishly claimed that the BBC “exists in an incredibly politically charged environment, even as it tries to be apolitical and neutral.”

Left-wing media always create a politically charged environment with relentless propaganda, so it is ridiculous to talk about their miserable journalistic mistakes by lamenting that they have suddenly become controversial. The “public” networks abuse the citizens who pay for their “news” product by beating conservatives against the wall on a regular basis.

PBS broadcaster Geoff Bennett began by emphasizing that this ‘Panorama’ documentary series is ‘the crown jewel of the BBC’s reporting process’. That’s like saying “60 Minutes” was a sparkling gem after Dan Rather tarnished it. George W. Bush in 2004. Stelter argued as the defense attorney that it was “a really thoughtful and careful film with only one major flaw…and there is no suggestion that it was malicious.” The modification was clearly done with malice.

Stelter told PBS that Trump threatens to file a lawsuit He will test the BBC’s mettle: “Every media company, when challenged by Trump, must ask: Do we fight or give in? Do we fight in court or give in to his demands?” He said the BBC should not back down: “When you appease media companies, when they appear to be capitulating, there is a consumer backlash. Just ask Disney with Jimmy Kimmel.”

But then there is the broader question of everyday bias. Bennett has expressed concern loudly about conservative critics’ smearing of the BBC’s gold: “UK conservative critics claim there is a systemic left-wing bias at the BBC. What does all this mean for the BBC’s international reporting and reputation?” Stelter agrees that there is “this coordinated political campaign, mostly from the Conservatives in the UK, to undermine the BBC.” As with CNN, BBC “news” staff routinely engage in a coordinated political campaign to undermine right-wingers.

This is, once again, a glaring example of why PBS and NPR wouldn’t dream of giving a conservative media critic a chance to debate someone like Stelter, someone who could more broadly condemn the BBC’s blatant bias on Gaza, climate change and “gender-affirming care.” This is why the BBC should be privatised. PBS and NPR are currently defunded. Because there is no debate or democracy allowed on these stations, especially when “public” broadcasting is challenged.

NPR’s “Morning Edition” headed to London, where its producer, Fatima Al-Qassab, began warning of threats to “press freedom.” This is how they belittle criticism of left-wing disinformation. She cited Ed Davey, leader of the Liberal Democrats, Britain’s third-largest party: “He said people on the right in British politics are following in the footsteps of Trump’s America and endangering a free press.”

On All Things Considered, NPR’s David Folkenflik also ran a story warning that the “alt-right” is ruining everything. Trump is trying to discredit news organizations by doing this. At the same time, he is helping this ally of his – a far-right figure who has become prominent in some ways in the UK’s multi-party system – which is Nigel Farage“.

Farage recently reiterated the obvious: “The… The BBC was institutionally biased “For decades.” After the misinformation, he said, Trump told him: “Is this how you treat your best ally?” But the “public” broadcasters see their hard-line alliances as engaging in a crusade with fellow leftists, portraying Trump as a global danger.

As with CNN, BBC “news” staff routinely engage in a coordinated political campaign to undermine right-wingers.

The Stelters and Folkenflakes will disparage the conservative media with gusto, and will not endorse the idea that they seek to undermine “freedom of the press.” Likewise, holding the BBC responsible when it fails does not constitute a press freedom issue. It’s about quality journalism.

You wouldn’t accuse someone of seeking to undermine the restaurant industry after you complained about getting food poisoning at a fancy restaurant. It is the responsibility of the chefs to solve the problem, and critics should be free to complain about those who have been subjected to poor service.
