Philadelphia backed by George Soros District Attorney Larry Krasner is facing increasing backlash after a repeat offender — who was previously on low bail and was released when Krasner’s office dropped kidnapping and assault charges — was charged in the disappearance of Miss USA candidate Kada Scott, 23, whose remains were found over the weekend.

In a tense news conference on Friday, Krasner blamed “systemic issues” for the suspect’s earlier release on bail — a defense that drew an immediate rebuke from victims’ lawyers and court officials, who accused the prosecutor of shirking responsibility.

Prosecutors have now filed additional charges against 21-year-old Keon King, escalating a case that has gripped Philadelphia.

King, which he already is She faces kidnapping and stalking False imprisonment charges He now faces a new list of charges including arson, conspiracy, tampering with evidence and causing a disaster, after police discovered Scott’s body in a shallow grave behind a former school.

Investigators said King used a burned vehicle to transport Scott’s body, and that his phone and vehicle data linked him to multiple crime scenes.

“The investigation remains under investigation,” Assistant District Attorney Ashley Toczylowski said. She confirmed that King’s digital footprint places him at every major location linked to Scott’s disappearance and death.

The case has reignited scrutiny of Krasner’s progressive policies and his treatment of repeat violent offenders.

Earlier this year, his office dropped an assault and kidnapping case against King when the victim failed to show up in court — a decision that allowed King to walk out on $200,000 bail, even though prosecutors had requested nearly $1 million because of the violent nature of the charges.

At Friday’s press conference, Krasner acknowledged that “the matter could have been handled better.” But he also pointed to “systemic problems” with the city’s bail process.

“Ultimately, that’s where the responsibility lies,” Krasner said. “It’s not my job to throw other people under the bus. If there’s a bad decision — and I think it was an incorrect decision — then we have to own it and try to move on better.”

Krasner said his office withdrew the previous case because the victim and witness did not show up, suggesting they were afraid because King was out on bail.

“What I’m saying about bail is that it could have made all the difference in the world,” he added.

Court officials backed down. Saying that judges are always available for emergency bail appeals, a step the district attorney’s office chose not to take.

“In light of this fact, the Attorney General’s comments are appallingly disrespectful… a sad attempt to find a scapegoat for his failures,” courts spokesman Martin O’Rourke said in a statement. Philadelphia Inquirer.

Krasner countered that late-night bail applications are often “fruitless,” adding, “The unfortunate truth is that some judges don’t want you calling them in the middle of the night. If you do, they lower your bail — they don’t raise it.”

Despite this history, Krasner’s office previously dropped several charges when witnesses failed to show up. In one incident earlier this year, King allegedly climbed a fence and attempted to break into his ex-girlfriend’s home, and in another incident, violently strangled her – however the case was dismissed.

Officials read a statement from Scott’s parents expressing their deep sorrow and gratitude for the public support.

The statement continued: “We place our full confidence in the Philadelphia Police Department and the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office to ensure that the truth is revealed and those responsible are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

City Councilman Anthony Phillips echoed that sentiment, noting that “Scott’s life matters.”

“The tragic and senseless death of Kada Scott has left an undeniable impact on our city and our 9th District community,” Phillips said. “Kada was our neighbor, our daughter, our sister, a young woman full of promise, and her light touched everyone she met.”
