SJSU trans scandal: Blaire Fleming makes disputed claims about Brooke Slusser

Exclusive: A prominent transgender athlete Blair Fleming He made allegations about former classmate Brooke Slusser’s lifestyle and academics. Slusser has disputed the allegations.

Slusser also fled San Jose State’s campus and then dropped out of classes for her final semester last spring. She said the constant personal harassment by students who opposed her position made her feel “unsafe” there. She and her family said she is still working on finishing her studies.
Fleming responded to a social media inquiry conducted by Fox News Digital to respond to Slusser’s revelations.

“She has been anorexic and has had difficulty eating for as long as I have known her[,] Aka since 2023. She has been literally weighing herself 2-3 times a day and keeping track of it on the white board in her room…. So I really don’t care about her or feel bad for her. She did not leave her lessons[,] You failed[,] “I hope it helps!” Fleming wrote. “Now please stop hitting me.”
Slusser provided a statement to Fox News Digital questioning Fleming’s claims.
“These statements are untrue. I have always lived a very healthy lifestyle. Before these events occurred[,] I have been very disciplined in fueling myself for athletics and [kept] Track to make sure I was where I needed to be[,] To be the best athlete. “It wasn’t until all this craziness started that my healthy lifestyle turned into a very unhealthy lifestyle of not eating as much as I should,” Slusser said.
“As for school[,] I have decided to stay home after the fall of 2024 to better myself and heal. So no[,] “I didn’t go back to San Jose and enroll myself in more courses at an institution that didn’t hold my interest.”

Fox News Digital’s initial investigation into Fleming began by pointing to Slusser’s response to Fleming’s claim that he was “suicidal” during the 2024 season, which was reported in a New York Times Magazine profile in April. The outlet also reported that Fleming cried “almost every night” during the scandal.
“If that’s the case,” Slusser said of Fleming’s suicidal thoughts [Fleming] “He was passing, it’s terrible.”
Fleming previously said that Slusser “needs to get a life.” This statement came in response to claims before Former SJSU assistant volleyball coach Melissa Patty Smoose about Fleming getting special treatment by head coach Todd Kress.
“Brooke Slusser and Melissa need a life,” Fleming told Fox News Digital on October 1.
“I have a great life,” Slusser replied.
Who is Blair Fleming?
Fleming, a biological male, was born in 2002 at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska, just south of Omaha, according to SJSU’s athletics profile. But Fleming grew up in Virginia.
According to the New York Times, Fleming discovered his transgenderism in eighth grade. Then, at the age of 14, Fleming worked with a doctor and therapist to transform “socially and medically.”
Fleming played girls volleyball at John Champy High School. At a listed height of 6 feet 1 inch, Fleming is two inches taller than the average women’s college volleyball player at 5 feet 9 inches, according to NCSA College Recruitment.

After a 9-1 regular season, Coastal Carolina reached the Sun Belt Conference championship game against Texas State, but lost in five sets.
Fleming transferred to SJSU before the 2022 season.
How did it get to this point between Slusser and Fleming?

Slusser transferred to SJSU for the 2023 season — one year after Fleming transferred. Slusser alleged in her lawsuits against the NCAA and Mountain West Conference that she was never told Fleming’s sex at birth, and that the two regularly shared hotel rooms on foreign trips.
Slusser and Patty Smoose, who is leading her own lawsuit against the university, told Fox News Digital that Fleming requested accommodations with Slusser, and was allegedly granted that request by team leadership.
“Blair wanted to live with Brooke Slusser, and that’s what Blair felt comfortable with, so Blair got what Blair wanted,” Patty-Smus said.
Fox News Digital previously reached out to Fleming and SJSU to respond to these allegations.
Slusser alleged in her lawsuits against the NCAA and Mountain West that Fleming admitted she was transgender during a conversation over ice cream with another teammate in April 2024.
Slusser then joined Riley Gaines’ lawsuit against the NCAA in September 2024. What followed was a series of seizures by opposing teams. Each loss exacerbated the heightened attention in the election season media cycle, putting SJSU volleyball players and their opponents under an enormous political spotlight.

Slusser alleged in her lawsuit against the Mountain West, which was filed in November, that she was told by teammates about an alleged conversation Fleming had with an opposing player, in which she discussed a plan to punch Slusser in the face during a game. Patty-Smus reported those same allegations in a Title IX complaint against the school, and she was later suspended and her contract was not renewed in January.
Mountain West commissioned a third-party investigation into the allegations against Fleming, and determined that insufficient evidence could be found to impose discipline.

In the final weeks of the 2024 regular season, Slusser and 10 other plaintiffs in her lawsuit against the Mountain West filed a request for a preliminary injunction to rule Fleming ineligible to continue playing, and to void the forfeiture owed to SJSU. Federal Judge Kato Cruz, appointed by former President Joe Biden, denied the request, keeping Slusser and Fleming on the field together for practice and games.
Slusser and Fleming were eventually named to the Mountain West all-conference team, as SJSU’s only honorees.
They finished the season with a 14-7 record, aided by six conference losses, then advanced to the Mountain West championship game after losing to Boise State in the divisional round.
But they lost in the title match to Colorado State, three sets to one. The loss ensured that the Spartans would not take their scandal to the NCAA Tournament.
Slusser left campus soon after at her parents’ insistence. According to The New York Times, Fleming also resumed classes remotely the following semester from Virginia.
Slusser said she came close to returning to play NCAA beach volleyball last spring, even having discussions with coaches at other schools about recruiting. But she ultimately decided against it and moved to North Carolina, where she worked as a youth volleyball coach.

Slusser and her family say she has recovered from anorexia and is working to finish her studies. She aspires to start her own project in the field of nutrition science.
Fleming was shown celebrating graduation from SJSU in an Instagram Stories post in May.
The U.S. Department of Education is currently investigating the university for possible Title IX violations.
