Reporter’s Notebook: Government shutdown fight reveals deep Democratic party divisions

It is often difficult to separate the noise from the signal in politics.

The noise is that Congress Democrats are fighting President Donald Trump and the Republicans for the closure of the potential government and spending on health care.

The signal is scratched. But if you turn on the Squelch handle, you can discover the signal.

We will not know who “wins” or “blames” for the government to close weeks. But it is likely that the government will tell us a lot about the future of the Democratic Party.

However, it is not surprising that Democrats try to turn the closure into something more concrete for millions of Americans: the high cost to cover health care.
