“I appreciate that. And you’re right. Because if we put everything aside, there’s a close connection to family discussions. Whichever side you’re on — it doesn’t matter — family truths are all interconnected and if you can just talk about them, you’ll find common ground in an area that’s not so divisive. “It’s interesting to get to know people from their family’s point of view, and what drives someone to work in public service. I have to say I feel the same way about art, and it’s interesting that he’s a dancer, and he has this real artistic expression even though he says it’s physical for him. I think Art is a gift too. “It’s a calling as well, in the sense that when you want to entertain, that calling isn’t necessarily for yourself, although I think creating art is for yourself, it’s to impact a community or an experience, and so, it’s important on one aspect as much as it is that the calling is actually in service of the community and the structure,” she added.

Oliver agreed, saying: “I think it’s a service, it’s just a different way of looking at it. I mean you’re definitely doing a public service when you do something artistic that touches people and makes them think differently and feel differently, and can change their lives. It might sound extreme, but art does that, and music does that. I mean, do you know how many songs have brought people back from the brink…” Oliver agreed.

“And not only that, it can completely change your life… You can watch a movie and look at your life and wait a minute, wait a minute. I don’t want to do this anymore, I want to do that. I’m not living the life that I want… And I think on the artist’s part it’s an invitation to be part of that kind of emotional experience, whereas in politics, that invitation is to actually feel like there’s something that they know they can put forward that can really impact their community or globally. It’s fascinating to me,” Kate explained.
