Hamas claims leaders survived Israeli attack in Doha, but confirms six deaths

The Palestinian Armed Group Hamas said that five of its members were killed in an Israeli air strike in the capital of Qatar, but claimed that the attempt to assassinate its negotiating team “failed.”
Hamas said that the negotiating team is meeting to discuss the last American suggestion of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip in a residential complex in Doha when it was severely damaged by a series of explosions.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strike “has something justified” because it targeted the senior Hamas leaders who organized the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, which sparked the Gaza war.
Qatar condemned the Israeli attack, describing it as a “coward” and “a flagrant violation of international law.”
The Ministry of the Interior in the Gulf state said that a member of the Interior Security Force was killed and injured, without mentioning any Hamas victims.
The White House said that US President Donald Trump believed the accident “unfortunate”, but eliminating Hamas was “a worthy goal.”
Qatar is a major American ally in the region that is a major American air base location.
The Hamas political office has hosted since 2012, and has served with the United States and Egypt as a mediator in indirect negotiations between the group and Israel.
Witnesses in Doha said they heard up to eight separate explosions on Tuesday afternoon, as smoke columns rise over the northern Katara region of the city.
The strike struck “residential buildings that include many members of the political bureau in Hamas,” according to the Qatari authorities.
Within minutes, Israel said it was behind the explosions.

The Israeli army launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the Hamas -led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, where about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others took hostage.
At least 64,605 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since then, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health in the region.
