“So I went to the other side of the skylight,” he said. “I thought, instead of chasing it around this skylight – this artificial skylight with the glass and the mesh – I’ll pass over it. It seemed strong enough to contain me. So, I stepped on the bar that was holding the glass together. It completely collapsed.”

“I fell 50 feet from ceiling to floor, and basically bounced off the light standard. There was a light rack in there for some shows we were doing. That stopped my fall. Then I hit the ground, landed on my butt and got into the ambulance.”
“It’s an incredible survival story for me,” he said proudly. “It’s one of my live cats. It’s gone.”

“Beverly D’Angelo bought it from us. We had some experiences in that house. The StairMaster would move when no one was around. Some of the people working in the house could feel a hand on the shoulder. My daughter, Danielle, saw a red-haired man with a little girl at the end of the hall near her bedroom. Another friend of ours saw a big black shadow moving across the stairs — I mean a shadow the size of Mama Cass — going through the stairs. The piano was playing a little bit.”

“I remember lying in bed and hearing my watch and my ring doing their little dust-and-devil dance in there,” he said. “It was kind of weird. When we sold it, there was a usual question that real estate companies have – mainly in North America – asking if you had experienced any unusual activity in the house. So, we had to uncover that. There were very energetic little things going on. Residual energies.” Whether it’s the ghost of Mama CassI don’t know.”

“I was never sure about mediation,” he said. “My family has been practicing mediumship and séances and getting to the other side. This is a kind of family religion — knowing that the body releases the spirit and the energy of the spirit, and after that, the energy of the spirit remains. Not only that, but consciousness remains. But I was a little skeptical about it until I went to a medium and got a medium to find someone for me and verify it. This (medium) only knew the things that the person and I shared.”

“If you can get a broker in Lily Dale, New York“It’s a beautiful part of the world out there,” he said. “You can go mainly in the summer, and they have registered psychics and mediators who have been vetted and are very real. You can try to reach someone from the other side. My results there – and my father’s results – were amazing. That’s what resolved my doubts.”

But Aykroyd’s mind is not consumed by the supernatural. He also cherishes vivid memories of his friends, especially his Blues Brothers partner, the late John Belushi. “Animal House” star. He died in 1982 of a drug overdose at the age of 33.

“During his short career, he was certainly well known as an accomplished comedian, actor and writer,” Aykroyd explained. “He has a great legacy. In the manner of his shameful death, many great artists succumbed to drugs. It’s tragic. And John – he was like an Elvis character. I think today, if people look back at ‘Animal House’ and ‘Blues Brothers,’ his performances are certainly considered masterful.”
“I saw the Blues Brothers. “About half a year ago. I had to do some storyboard work on the ‘Blues Brothers’. He’s just outstanding at that. He left us too soon,” he said.

“Today, of course, we’re seeing the scourge of fentanyl, which is very dangerous. That’s why I don’t mind seeing a drug boat blown out of the water from time to time, as long as that’s what’s on board and not innocent people. But everyone is against fentanyl and heroin and cocaine. One hopes that his children and loved ones can stay away from that. As far as John’s legacy goes, it’s holding up beautifully. It’s unfortunate that he left us so early in this way.”

These days, Aykroyd is fascinated by something far more mundane—the only thing that can truly be explained.

Live simply. Really, if I could – if I were alone and single – I would live a miserable life. But I would have an old blue black car, a motorcycle, and a color TV in one cell, like a monk. Something about that is attractive.”
