Former President Joe BidenThe disastrous US withdrawal from Afghanistan four years ago was a grave national humiliation and a betrayal of the men and women of our armed forces – especially those who have served bravely in the war-torn country for nearly two decades.

Unfortunately, the costs of this self-inflicted tragedy have continued long after our forces have left Afghanistan. Recently, an Afghan citizen residing in Texas – who came to America during the Biden administration – was accused of issuing bomb threats, launching a suicide attack, and killing Americans and “infidels.”

In addition to this incident, there is the heinous attack on two members of the state of West Virginia National Guard In Washington, D.C., I revealed that it is unfortunate that the consequences of this hasty, reckless, and poorly planned departure continue to put the security of our homeland and the safety of Americans at risk.

First, let me offer my prayers and support to the families, loved ones, and fellow U.S. Army Soldiers. Sarah Beckstrom and U.S. Air Force Sgt. Andrew Wolf, W Prayer for Sgt. Wolf Continued recovery. The honor they brought to our country and their home state of West Virginia will never be forgotten.

However, this tragedy — allegedly caused by an improperly vetted Afghan national who came to America amid the chaos of the withdrawal — could have been entirely prevented.

president Donald Trump This is what he expected during his first term.

“The consequences of a rapid exit are predictable and unacceptable,” Trump said during remarks presenting his strategy for Afghanistan on August 21, 2017.

He continued: “As we know, in 2011, America was in a hurry and wrong Withdrew from Iraq. As a result, our hard-won gains have fallen back into the hands of terrorist enemies. Our soldiers saw the cities they fought for, bled to liberate, and won in, occupied by a terrorist group called ISIS. The vacuum we created by withdrawing early gave ISIS a safe haven to spread, grow, recruit, and launch attacks. “We cannot repeat in Afghanistan the mistake our leaders made in Iraq.”

Unfortunately, because of Biden, we have repeated Iraq’s mistakes. This time, however, the Biden administration has added another self-imposed challenge by failing to vet more than 190,000 Afghan nationals who have resettled in America since the withdrawal.

Let’s get something straight: The standard used to screen Afghan citizens for work with the CIA and our military in Afghanistan is very different from the standard of screening that should be used when allowing Afghan citizens into Afghanistan. Come to America to live In our communities.

That is why I have called for stricter vetting standards and fought against blanket citizenship for Afghan citizens who have not been vetted since the beginning of the withdrawal debacle.

As I wrote at the time: “There is no doubt that we cannot trust some of the people who survived evacuation flights in the midst of this chaos…Proper vetting takes months. Vetting during the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan took place over hours, days, or weeks; in some cases, it did not happen at all. This is a woefully inadequate and reckless way to screen people coming from a country with poor record-keeping and a long history of extremism and terrorism.”

Conducting a thorough examination of someone from a country like Afghanistan is a complex and challenging process. It’s not like calling one of our allies to request records on a specific individual or even reaching out to the local police department to check the background of a potential job candidate. To make matters more complicated, at that time, the Afghan government had collapsed and handed control to the Taliban, an arch enemy of the United States.

In the months immediately following the withdrawal, more than 70,000 Afghans entered the United States without proper background checks, causing ongoing displacement. Threat to national security Within our borders that remain to this day.

To underscore this point, a February 2022 report by the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General found that the Biden administration failed to use a basic biometric database to properly screen Afghan evacuees. In a retrospective review conducted by the US Army (which maintains the database), many evacuees were found to have been injured. ‘Significant potential security concerns’ Including “individuals whose latent fingerprints have been found on improvised explosive devices,” as well as individuals who are “known or suspected terrorists.”

There is no doubt that these evacuations were reckless and rushed operations designed to cover up Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, ultimately creating a dangerous time bomb within our borders.

The recent tragedy of innocent American soldiers, as well as the arrest in Texas, should serve as an urgent wake-up call to put our house in order. This starts with ensuring that every person in our country is a law-abiding individual who wants to help keep America safe, strong, prosperous, and free for themselves, their families, and their fellow Americans.
