Former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers (left), former White House counsel Katherine Rummler (center), and journalist Michael Wolff (right) were named in the Epstein documents released by Congress.

US lawmakers have released more than 20,000 pages of documents from the estate of disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Some documents mention Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, the former prince and brother of King Charles; US President Donald Trump; former Trump advisor Steve Bannon; And a host of other figures from the worlds of media, politics and entertainment, who highlight the extent of Epstein’s communications record.

Trump was friends with Epstein for years, but the president said they fell out around 2004, years before Epstein was first arrested. Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing regarding Epstein.

Here are some other names that were mentioned, which do not indicate violations by any of the mentioned parties.

Michael Wolf

“I’ve been trying to talk about this story for a very long time,” Wolf said Wednesday.

Michael Wolff, 72, is an American journalist and columnist – and a prolific author of books about the rich and famous.

The first book of Fire and Fury, covering Trump’s first term as US president, was released in 2018, with descriptions of a dysfunctional White House and salacious details about the US commander-in-chief. Trump said it was “full of lies.”

A new batch of files related to Jeffrey Epstein sheds light on a relationship that appears to indicate a correspondence between Wolfe and the convicted sex offender.

Particular attention focused on one email, in which Wolf appeared to offer advice to Epstein regarding Trump, as Trump was campaigning for the White House for the first time.

Wolff wrote to Epstein in 2015 to inform him that CNN was planning to ask Trump, as a presidential candidate, about his relationship with Epstein.

“If we could formulate an answer to him,” Epstein replied, “what do you think it should be?”

The two continued to discuss strategy, with Wolfe writing: “I think you should let him hang himself.”

In a separate email dating back to October 2016, days before the US presidential election, Wolff offered Epstein the opportunity to sit down for an interview that could “end” Trump.

Responding to the statement in a video posted on Instagram, Wolf said: “Some of these emails were between me and Epstein, with Epstein discussing his relationship with Donald Trump.”

“I’ve been trying to talk about this story for a very long time,” he added.

In fact, Wolff revealed before the recent US presidential election that he had conducted “periodic” interviews with Epstein for the film Fire and Fury – and released tapes of those conversations.

Larry Summers

The documents include correspondence between Epstein and Larry Summers, who was Treasury Secretary under former Democratic President Bill Clinton. It was previously reported that the two men know each other.

Emails indicate that they met for dinner frequently, with Epstein often trying to connect Summers with prominent international figures. At one point, in July 2018, Epstein suggested a meeting with “the president.” [sic] “United Nations, an interesting person for you.”

In a separate email from late November 2016, just after Trump’s election, Summers asked Epstein “to put no effort into anything involving me with Trump.”

Because of Trump’s “conflict of interest approach,” Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “reckless response” to the death of Cuban leader Fidel Castro, Summers said he was “in better shape than a million miles away.”

A spokesman for Summers declined to comment, but referred the BBC to previous statements by Summers. A representative told the Wall Street Journal in 2023 that the former official “deeply regrets his contact with Epstein after his conviction.”

The House Oversight Committee released several email exchanges between Epstein and Katherine Rumler, an attorney who served as White House counsel during Barack Obama’s presidency.

In August 2018, Ms. Rummler and Epstein discussed financial payments Trump made to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election — a case for which Trump was later convicted of falsifying business records. Trump denies accusations that he had an affair with Daniels.

The exchange between Rumler and Epstein reached its climax when Epstein wrote: “You see, I know how dirty Donald is.”

Goldman Sachs, where Ms. Rumler currently serves as chief legal officer and general counsel, told CNBC that it stands by its employees.

“These emails were private correspondence long before Cathy Rumler joined Goldman Sachs. Cathy is an exceptional general counsel and we benefit from her judgment every day,” Goldman Sachs spokesman Tony Fratto said in a statement. CNBC.

In 2023, Ms. Rumler He told the Wall Street Journal “I regret knowing Jeffrey Epstein.”

The BBC asked Rumler and Goldman Sachs to provide further comments.

The name of billionaire investor and intermittent Trump supporter Peter Thiel has resurfaced in the latest Epstein documents — after he was first mentioned in a collection made public in September.

According to the newly released files, Epstein wrote to Mr. Thiel in November 2018 to invite him to visit him on his Caribbean island, where some of Epstein’s crimes are believed to have been committed.

The BBC has asked Thiel and Founders Investors Fund for comment. A representative for Mr. Thiel told Politico that he had never visited the island.

Mr. Thiel criticized Epstein on an August 2024 episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

“You know, I met Epstein a few times as well,” Thiel said.

Thiel said he was introduced to Epstein by another Silicon Valley executive in 2014.

“I didn’t check, I didn’t ask any questions, enough questions about it,” Thiel said. “Epstein knew a lot about taxes,” he speculated.

Noam Chomsky

The latest documents to be dropped include more correspondence between famed linguist Noam Chomsky, 96, and Epstein. Many of their discussions were academic or personal.

At times, the conversations turned to Trump, including in December 2016.

In his email, Chomsky told Epstein: “I noticed that your prediction was correct about Trump avoiding going to the White House as too primitive.”

The BBC has contacted Chomsky’s representative for comment.

In his responses to previous Wall Street Journal reports about their relationship, Chomsky said that Epstein helped him move money between his accounts without “a penny from Epstein,” admitting that “I knew him and we met from time to time.”

Peggy Segal

Epstein consulted with publicist Biggie Segal as the scandal surrounding him and his associates unfolded.

Epstein wrote to Seagal in 2011 asking her to contact Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington in order to discredit Virginia Giuffre, who was one of Epstein and Andrew’s most prominent accusers. Geoffrey died by suicide earlier this year.

Epstein told Segal that Huffington “must defend the dangers of false allegations…”

The email exchange shows Ms. Segal telling Epstein: “If you rewrite your last email in a better grammatical way, (and so I have a better understanding), I can cut and paste it and send it to Arianna Huffington from me…”

In a phone interview, Segal told the BBC that she never agreed to Epstein’s request to Huffington. “I didn’t call Ariana,” she said. Segal added that Huffington “used to publish my writings and there is no reason in the world for me to jeopardize that relationship.”

But the fact that Epstein requested it “was not unusual. It was a ridiculous request,” she said.

She added: “Jeffrey had a habit of trying to trap people into his delusional world.”

Meanwhile, Huffington told Politico: “She was never contacted and never sent a reporter.”
